Ah yes, the "Bloodthirsty" trait... That obligatory negative trait for any great general :)
How do generals get "Uncontrollable Rage"? That one seems to come up rather often. That and it seems...

Great generals and pics! Keep 'em coming. :)
Leonides, that general with full bars except for no management is great!
That's outstanding. The most stars I have seen is 9
Since those family members who litter our settlements and frontiers are such a big part of this game, I thought I would start a new thread for us to share the exploits of our great generals.
My...
Read the thread first, and then post something constructive.
Thank you....
I can't believe he thinks artillary takes too long. I could sit for hours and watch flaming onager projectiles blast a noob box....
It's pretty well set in stone...I'll post it again for those who ignored it.
Each man in the unit gains experience seperately, and then the "average" is what you see on the unit card.
If you use a 3 man unit of horse archers to run down roting enemies, his experience will...
Just a side note; Unrelated. While great generals are important. Leadership and flexibility in the lower tiers of military leadership is usually the start of an impressive military machine to...
I will only ever reload if there was a technical issue or a bug that prevented me from doing whatever it is I'm trying to do.
If my assasin dies trying to eliminate a target that should have been...
What he said. Pretty much to the letter.
While I enjoyed Rome Total Realism, one of my gripes about it was that is just wasn't fun. Having a unit of gladiators, or unleashing hounds on your routing enemies is just fun....I can't really...
Egypt doesn't seem to do all that well when actual money is involved. That is, a reasonable denari limit.
I'll go Rome.
It seems like this mod has had some mild anti-Rome leanings. Macedon on the other hand....
Too easy to get around.
This is not true in every case. On both counts.
I fought god knows how may battles with this guy and I just couldn't get that 10th star.
He was a good attacker and good defender though, so when it came down to "crunch time" he actually had the...
If we're going to get specific, I just don't see the greek cavalry being able to protect their archers and peltasts against Rome's heavy cav.
Macedon could though.
I think that we can both agree that fighting on the corner of the map is pretty lame, and shouldn't qualify as "used properly".
In any case, you are right, as I've had militia hoplites hold city...
Umm...That was the AAR :)
I don't get much time to play and write AAR's anymore. It took well over 3 months to live out his 69 years. (Well actually 44).
Learn. If you look at the details scroll, you will see that the city is generating far more income than you think. Because it is a large city, it carries a heavier burden of your total expenses.

I wanted to share with you all, the short tale of one of my greatest generals:
I was playing RTR Platinum 1.9 (short victory conditions), with my own name pack (Ups my chances of getting a...
I hate when you fight a battle in which you would have had zero casuaties, only to find that your only deaths were due to your own missile fire.
To continue:
We ran some more battles, Urbans vs. Spartans. In these it was still 1 vs. 1 in effect, only the Romans had one more unit, a First Cohort. We deployed the Urbans at the same width...
All those rules are crap, and I don't play in any game that uses them.
Everybody has the same cash. If my opponent wants to waste some of his on artillary (easily destroyed) or elephants (easily...
Sacred Band is awesome. I love how you only need a temple for them too (the happiness and law bonus one as well!).
How do they stack up without any upgrades?
I used to run my General around to "issue orders".
We were just testing unit vs. unit.
We played one game at the end but it was Gual (me) vs. Rome (my friend). I lost ;)
Once you put more than one unit out there it gets more difficult to...
Well they didn't scare our 1st Cohorts last night! As I said, both units made contact head-on, including the legionaries charging headlong into the spears and they still won. The 1st Cohort will...
Ok, 1 unit vs. 1 unit, the Spartans are not the best infantry unit in the game.
I made my tests online. Your Spartan Hoplites will never be the best infantry unit in the game for one reason;

Gotta go with Parthia. Those Persian Horse Archers are outstanding =)
I'd say Armenia for their versatility, but all the dirtbags in the neighborhood I grew up in were Armenian so I can't make...
Don't even try, brandbll. CI has seen "300" too many times.
Watchtowers all the way for me too. Though you can't build them in enemy territory, so that is where spies become useful.
I've had a number of CTD problems, sometime with revolt, and sometimes not, and have had many different solutions. Sometimes just moving the location of some of my armies, or giving a portion of my...
Check the building browser when your city is ready to go huge. You need the second to largest market also.
Agents are great for opening gates for your armies ahead of time! I use diplomats all the time, but then, I've mastered the diplomacy angle of this game more than most.
I don't even notice the difference in length of battles for RTR. Once you figure out how to use cavalry properly, it's not all that difficult to end battles quickly.
You have to train yourself...
I'd have to go with Thracia.
They have those bastarnae along with phalanxes, regular archers, and javelin cavalry. If everybody sucks, the most flexible wins. In a pinch you can always use...
